Bruce Lloyd AM, former Deputy Leader of the National Party, stepped down from the Crawford Fund’s Victoria Committee this month – the Crawford Fund family sincerely thank Bruce for his contribution to the Fund’s work and wish him well.

A lifelong farmer, Bruce was deputy leader of the National Party from 1987 to 1993 and served in the House of Representatives from 1971 to 1996, representing the Victorian seat of Murray.  In Parliament he served as Parliamentary Secretary for Primary Industry (Agriculture), Shadow Minister (Opposition Spokesman) for a number of portfolios including Primary Industry for six years, and a member of the House of Representatives Standing Committee on the Environment.

Following his retirement from politics in 1996 after 25 years, he joined the Crawford Fund’s Victorian Committee.

“Bruce’s practical, down to earth approach, coupled with his vast political experience were invaluable to the deliberations of the Committee and he will be greatly missed,” said Dr Tony Gregson AM, Board Member and Chairman of the Victorian Committee of the Crawford Fund.

Bruce was the first chair of the Australian Landcare Council and his belief and dedication to the Landcare movement extended into his activities with the Crawford Fund. The Fund has supported Landcare study tours; technical and specialist training, and five Landcare Master Class programs engaging trainees from many countries, including Fiji, Tonga, Nauru, Solomon Islands, Philippines, Puerto Rico, South Africa, Tanzania, Kenya, Uganda, Sri Lanka, the USA and the UK.

His enduring passion for the environment has seen him serve as a member of the Natural Heritage Trust Advisory Committee, the National Gene Technology Community Consultative Committee, the National Greenhouse and Agriculture Task Force, the Plant Breeder’s Rights Advisory Committee and the National Agricultural Environmental Management Systems Advisory Committee. He has also served on the Environmental Protection Board.

The Crawford Fund wishes Bruce the very best for the future.
