Global Wheat Gathering

September 6, 2024

The Crawford Fund is pleased to be supporting the upcoming International Wheat Congress to be held in Perth, 22-27 September. It is an important international gathering for the global wheat community, providing a platform for leading experts, researchers, policymakers, and industry professionals to discuss advancements in the field of wheat breeding, genetics, genomics, and agronomy. Like the earlier Congress in Australia in 2015, we see it as a great opportunity to raise awareness of significant developments for food security and to encourage the NextGen!

Cathy Reade, our Director of Outreach and NextGen Programs, a member of the advisory board, will be assisting with media outreach and participating in a panel around inspiring NextGen scientists. We are also partnering to present an Early Career NextGen Panel and networking event with the involvement of the RAID Network, ANU Agrifood Innovation Institute, CSIRO, Murdoch University and the International Wheat Initiative.

For those registered to attend the congress, numbers are limited so book asap for “Early Career Researchers and Students: Career Pathways Panel and Networking” being held on Wednesday, 25 September from 4-5.30pm.

With so many at the International Wheat Congress, this free event is a great opportunity for early career researchers and students to connect with fellow scholars.

Meet and quiz a group of young and not-so-young researchers on different pathways to success in careers in wheat research. We are so pleased to have John Yaxley, from the central committee of Researchers in Agriculture for International Development (RAID) Network on board!

Following short presentations on their career pathways covering the public, private, academic and science sectors, there will be an opportunity for Q&A and then a free networking event with food and (non-alcoholic) drinks.

Great chance to meet other students and early career researchers attending the International Wheat Congress.

And if you’re at the event, be sure to connect with Cathy as well as Lyn Abbott, Coordinator of our WA Committee, and John Yaxley from the RAID Network.
