Keynote Listeners
Shortly after our conference each year, a succinct summary of the event is released for those looking for an overview of what they heard or a snapshot of what they missed.
This initiative is delivered by our Keynote Listeners who play an integral role in summarising and communicating the key take home messages from the event.
Our Keynote Listeners are sourced from our RAID Network (Researchers in Agriculture for International Development) – the Australia-based network that brings together early to mid-career researchers with an interest in agriculture and international development.
RAID’s support is also key to the successful delivery of our conference scholar program, assisting with our scholar activities and mentoring some of the scholars. Most of our conference scholars go on to be members of the RAID Network, a program of the Crawford Fund.
Our RAID Keynote Listeners in 2021 are:
Dr Madaline Healey
Madaline is a member of the RAID network, a Crawford Fund mentor in Laos and a former conference scholar. She studied a Bachelor of Agricultural Science before stepping into a PhD and then landing in Laos as a volunteer entomologist in the Crawford Fund program. Madaline works at the University of the Sunshine Coast on ACIAR projects in the Mekong countries focusing on integrated pest management, biological control and forest biosecurity. Her interests are trees, veggies and all things bug like. A short video on Madaline’s time in Laos as a volunteer and then a mentor in our biosecurity work is here.
Ms Rebecca Cotton
Rebecca was a Crawford Fund conference scholar from the University of the Sunshine Coast in 2016 and went on to be a Research Officer at ACIAR based in Canberra. She is now the President of RAID. Bec’s B.Sc. majored in sustainability. She then completed her honours thesis on improving agricultural extension based in Fiji and the Cook Islands, with three months in the Islands conducting research with the subsistence and small holder farmers.
