The Crawford Fund is excited to launch two separate 2025 awards for students at Australian universities, as part of the Crawford Fund’s suite of opportunities in our NextGen program to encourage the next generation in agriculture for development. This year we have both the Crawford Fund Student Awards and our inaugural Crawford Fund Henzell Awards.
If you are at an Australian university, at either undergraduate or postgraduate level, one of these awards may offer you an opportunity to add an international component to your studies, experience, and career pathway.
International agricultural research for development needs people from a broad range of fields – agriculture, animal production, fisheries, forestry, natural resource management – in fact, any area broadly related to food and nutrition security! So both our Student Awards and our Henzell Awards are open to students involved in degrees beyond agriculture, such as social sciences, gender, environment, health, nutrition, communication, AI, data analytics, business or finance… if you can explain the connection with improving food and nutrition security, please get on board as agriculture for development needs you!
These awards will open a whole new world of personal and professional experience, networks, and career opportunities.
We have two different awards available:
1. The Crawford Fund Student Awards
Each of our State and Territory Committees support the Crawford Fund Student Awards which enable (mainly post-graduate) students to gain valuable experience and expertise by bringing an international component to their studies and research. This usually involves travel and immersion in a research project, country and culture associated with your existing studies.
The conditions and requirements for the State and Territory Committees’ awards differ in terms of the study levels needed, whether Australian citizenship/residency is required, the award amounts provided and the number of awards available. We recommend you read the provided backgrounder carefully to make sure you know if you are eligible, and you have on hand what you need for the online application process – don’t leave it ’til the last moment! We also encourage you to contact our coordinator in your State/Territory, listed in the backgrounder.
All the details are available here.
2. The Crawford Fund Henzell Awards
In the short video below, produced by Ted Henzell’s son John, Ted explains his family’s thinking behind offering to support the Crawford Fund Henzell Awards.
The Crawford Fund is very excited to be offering these awards in 2025 designed specifically for undergraduate students, thanks to support from Ted and Frances Henzell and their family (announced here earlier this year).
The awards will fund undergraduate students who are in their second or subsequent year of undergraduate study at an Australian university and are Australian citizens or permanent residents, for brief visits to enable a connection and better understanding of international agricultural research. Applicants can either identify a project in their application or ask the Fund to assist in providing the experience.
We recommend you read the provided backgrounder carefully to make sure you know if you are eligible, and you have on hand what you need for the online application process – don’t leave it ’til the last moment! All the details are available here.
The closing date for both of these awards is 12 May 2025.
Good luck!
