Closing date for our 2020 student awards extended to Friday 26 June 2020.
Want to get involved in International Agriculture Development? One of the great options available to you is the Crawford Fund International Agriculture Student Awards. We accept applications from university students studying agriculture, animal production, fisheries, forestry, natural resource management or any area related to food and nutrition security.
Our student awards help you bring an international component to your studies and research and enable you to gain valuable practical experience in a developing country.
We proudly support the NextGen with each of our State and Territory Committees providing student award opportunities to university students in their region. These awards have been developed specifically to enable your practical, feet-on-the-ground, involvement in an overseas project as part of your university studies.
The conditions and requirements for the State and Territory Committees’ awards differ in terms of eligibility, the maximum award amount, and the number of awards provided so we encourage you to look at the webpage for the committee in which your institution is based, and then to make contact with the coordinator in your State/Territory with your queries. Contacts are below.
We also strongly recommend you read the general background information before you start your online application. The short online application form will require you to attach a brief CV, the signatures of, or a supporting note from, the Authorised Officers approving your application, and details of at least one referee. Your health and safety are paramount to us so you will be asked to provide details of relevant arrangements for this purpose too.
PLEASE NOTE THAT APPROVED AWARDEES’ TRAVEL WILL NEED TO COMPLY WITH DFAT TRAVEL ADVICE FOR SAFETY AND HEALTH PURPOSES.

The 2020 Student Awards were launched at the Australian Women in Agriculture (AWIA) conference on the 2nd of November during the Crawford Fund ‘NextGen’ panel. The panel was moderated by our Director of Outreach, Cathy Reade, who manages our NextGen work. The panel featured former student awardee Jessica Fearnley, former 2019 conference scholar Razlin Azlam and AWIA youth coordinator Amy Munro. The panellists talked about the impact of their overseas work, how it connects back to Australian agriculture, and how they developed personally and professionally from their involvement.
In 2019, our State Committees supported 22 tertiary student awards. You can read the latest instalment of the 2019 Award recipients here, and reports from the 2019 Awardees are being featured through the Crawford Fund network as they arrive:

These Awards are just one life- and career-changing experience we offer young researchers with an interest in agriculture for development. Other key elements of our next generation focus are our conference scholar program, our opportunities and encouragement in volunteering for projects overseas, and through our work with Researchers in Agriculture for International Development (RAID).
