THE CRAWFORD FUND QUEENSLAND COMMITTEE:
2017 FORUM & NETWORKING EVENT

Doing Well By Doing Good—Queensland’s Impacts and Benefits in Agricultural Research

You are invited to a free forum and networking event, organised by the Crawford Fund Queensland Committee, to be held on 15 February at Queensland’s Parliament House in Brisbane. The event begins with a series of presentations from 3 pm and is followed by a Networking Reception from 5 pm.

This ‘Doing Well by Doing Good’ event aims to showcase the great work Queenslanders do in international agriculture, the benefits flowing back to Queensland’s agriculture and researchers, and its impact in developing countries—highlighting the real win-win that it carries.

We are pleased to have Queensland’s new Chief Scientist, Professor Suzanne Miller, officially opening the event and addressing the topic of ‘Queensland Science for Food Security’. Dr Peter Horne, General Manger, Country Programs, Australian Centre for International Agricultural Research (ACIAR), will explain the ‘Importance of Queensland’s Expertise’—in line with their mission of achieving more productive and sustainable agricultural systems, for the benefit of developing countries and Australia.

We also hope you catch some of the enthusiasm of a group of young Queensland researchers who will explain their international work, its impact in-country and in Queensland, and on them professionally and personally. The young Queensland scientists involved in a moderated discussion panel include:

  • Adam Redman, Senior Scientist at the Department of Agriculture and Fisheries
  • Madaline Healey, PhD candidate at Central Queensland University
  • Gurion Ang, PhD candidate at The University of Queensland
  • Tarni Cooper, PhD candidate at The University of Queensland.

The program will include a welcoming address by Professor Kaye Basford, Crawford Fund Queensland Committee Chair and Acting Head, School of Biomedical Sciences at The University of Queensland. And Dr Bruce Pengelly, Coordinator of the Crawford Fund Queensland Committee, will speak on engaging with the Crawford Fund.

The networking reception will begin with a welcoming address by The Hon Mike Ahern AO, former Premier of Queensland and Chair of the Crawford Fund Queensland Committee.
